“Waiting for the final storm”. Unveiled the 39. SIC official artwork

«It has never been more difficult to look back at the past. Three years ago, we were emerging from a frightening pandemic that had forced us within the confines of our homes and we were just beginning to embrace each other again, to touch each other, to experience cinemas as something precious, a shared experience. We reaffirmed it the following year, the desire to reconquer spaces with new, challenging gazes, taking pride in our being creatures in eternal motion. Last year, in contrast, we welcomed a return to a more intimate and personal dimension; to narratives that started from the body and returned to the body, as the ultimate instrument able to convey codes and stories.
And now? What is “now”? More importantly, when is now? Things that happened yesterday seem already far away, overwhelmed as we are by heaps and heaps of new information, coming to us, minute after minute, from every corner of the globe and undermining all our illusions of stability. Mystified by an uncertain future in a world that seems to have lost all humanity, we unravel – our edges blurring, weighed down by doubts, by fears, waiting for the next storm to sweep us away. Around us, only roads with no sign or directions. Light becoming rarer. The only constant, the knowledge that nature will stand by and watch everything that happens, and will ultimately survive us.
But after that?
There is great confusion under the sky.
The situation, perhaps, is not entirely rosy. »

«Sometimes, in order to move forward, there is a need to let some things go.
We must scratch the surface layer, digging deeper; look at naked forms, stripped bare, and destroy them in order to rebuild. Keep moving, never stopping, right into the heart of the storm. We like the idea of combining different languages: we do it with film, art, photography. This time around, we decided to look for colours within primitive structures, so in contrast with a world that feeds us a daily spectacle of polished, dulled beauty. We let our thoughts run free within the confines of the image, centrifuging the main figure, twisting it, dirtying it, because it felt like the perfect way to narrate the present.
If everything around us is hanging by a thread, it is precisely from uncertainty that we must start again.»
